We were fortunate to have legendary drummer Vinnie Paul drop by our studio recently. Discussing various points of his career, the Pantera icon of course talked about his late brother and bandmate, Dimebag Darrell, revisiting some of his favorite memories about the guitarist, including one fun fact that Paul said the world didn’t know about the shredder.
Hellyeah‘s newest album, Unden!able, boasts a cover of the Phil Collins song “I Don’t Care Anymore,” which features some original guitar recordings from Dimebag. We asked about other recordings from the guitarist that may be hanging around in the vaults and Paul said, “He has so much stuff, man,” before revealing where some of the recordings came from: the bathroom!
Yes, Dimebag had a guitar and tape recorder in the bathroom / master thinking room! Paul recalled asking Dime about the bathroom setup, to which the axeman replied “Man, that’s where I write all my riffs — that’s why my riffs are the s–t!” The drummer then said how his brother had even written a song about Taco Bell, but on a more serious note mentioned that he would like to release these recordings for the fans to hear.
